The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a Forklift Trainer to deliver hands ‑ on, industry ‑ focused training that prepares students and workforce participants to operate forklifts safely, efficiently, and confidently. In this role, you'll combine technical expertise with instructional excellence to help learners develop the skills, knowledge, and safety awareness needed to succeed in warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, and industrial environments. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience operating forklifts with a strong understanding of equipment functionality, safety standards, and operational best practices
  • Valid forklift trainer certification, or significant experience training and certifying forklift operators
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation and instructional abilities with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Commitment to workplace safety and the ability to instill safety ‑ focused behaviors in others
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage training schedules, materials, and documentation
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels
  • All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom and hands ‑ on instruction covering forklift operation, controls, loading and unloading procedures, and workplace safety practices
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions that support participants with varying skill levels and backgrounds
  • Utilize demonstrations, practical exercises, and interactive learning activities to reinforce key concepts
  • Provide individual coaching and real ‑ time feedback to support skill development and confidence
  • Promote a safety ‑ first culture through instruction on industry standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Ensure training activities are conducted in accordance with established safety requirements
  • Emphasize proper equipment operation, hazard awareness, inspection procedures, and risk mitigation techniques
  • Reinforce safe workplace behaviors and operational accountability
  • Evaluate participant knowledge and skill development through written assessments, practical evaluations, and performance demonstrations
  • Determine readiness for certification based on established training standards
  • Issue certifications and maintain accurate training records and participant documentation
  • Prepare reports related to training outcomes, participant performance, and program effectiveness
  • Maintain current knowledge of forklift operations, safety regulations, and industry trends
  • Identify opportunities to enhance curriculum, instructional practices, and training materials
  • Incorporate emerging technologies, industry standards, and best practices into training programs
  • Support continuous improvement efforts that enhance participant success and program quality
  • Work collaboratively with Workforce Development staff, employers, and industry partners to support training needs
  • Contribute to workforce development initiatives that help meet regional employer demands
  • Participate in meetings, professional development activities, and program planning efforts as needed
  • Convey by words and actions the values expected by CWI
  • Perform other duties as assigned
