Industrial Tax Appraiser

State of Montana•Bozeman, MT

About The Position

The Industrial Appraiser I position is an advanced-level role in the Montana Department of Revenue’s Property Assessment Division, specializing in the appraisal of industrial and personal properties. The employee assists with valuation of assigned simple industrial properties to support fair and equitable tax assessments, working under appropriate supervision rather than independently on complex valuations. The role calls for knowledge of commercial and industrial appraisal methodologies, including the cost approach, and analysis of property characteristics that may be complex or unique. It does not supervise staff or include mentoring less-experienced staff, though the appraiser may respond to inquiries from lower-level appraisers and support departmental appraisal functions through accurate data analysis, clear communication, and collaboration with senior industrial appraisal staff. The position may be located in any Property Assessment Division field office except Baker, Havre, Forsyth, Jordan, Lewistown, Malta, Miles City, Plentywood, Roundup, Libby, Thompson Falls, Livingston, and Shelby. The position may be eligible for telework from an approved worksite, but the employee must be a Montana resident, report to the office assigned by the supervisor, and meet telework eligibility requirements. Full-time teleworking is not available. Computer systems and tax guidelines will be taught on the job.
