About The Position

The Industrial Security Specialist serves as a technical authority applying security policy to complex security problems that cannot be resolved through accepted methods, technology, or procedures. The role establishes and maintains DFAS Information Security, Industrial Security, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) education and training programs; oversees inquiries and investigations into security incidents involving Classified National Security Information (CNSI) and CUI; and develops, implements, promulgates, and ensures compliance with agency-wide Information Security and Industrial Security policies and procedures based on existing and new DoW directives, manuals, and instructions. The specialist conducts program reviews and assessments at DFAS sites and prepares reports documenting observations that require remediation. The role also reviews agency Statements of Work (SoWs) and Performance Work Statements (PoWs) for security language and prepares DD Form 254, DoW Contract Security Classification Specification, for contracts requiring access to CNSI using the National Industrial Security System (NISS) Increment II (NI2). This is a Defense Security position requiring the selected employee to obtain and/or maintain a Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC). If the employee does not already meet the applicable Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) certification requirements, the SFPC must be obtained within two years after the first duty day. The employee must acknowledge the certification requirement and permit DoD to access and monitor the associated certification qualifications. The position may require access to classified information and a favorable security determination. Travel is seldom, at 1–24%. Telework is limited and only available rarely on a case-by-case basis when Agency Leadership determines it serves a compelling DoD need.
