About The Position

Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking an Industrial Power and Control Technician to join our team at the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP)! The WPCP operates and maintains the County's wastewater treatment infrastructure, ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. This Technician will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial control systems and equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and protective relays, and manages projects supporting the Plant's critical infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or the equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing electrical preventive and corrective maintenance in an industrial setting with high voltage 480V to 4160V systems AND maintaining electrical controls, protective relays and/or PLCs.
  • NEC Master Electrician License.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Confined Space Entry certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Programming and maintaining Variable Frequency Drives and RVSS.
  • Testing and maintaining Medium Voltage (4160V-35KV), Low Voltage (600V), Switchgear and components.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Logix 5000 and RS Fieldbus.
  • Experience with Motorized Valves.
  • Automation or Controls experience including diagnosing and resolving complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and analyzing control systems and equipment at the WPCP and remote lift stations to identify maintenance needs, determining root cause of malfunctions in power monitoring, communications, and control system components, and recommending repair, replacement, or redesign solutions.
  • Programming, calibrating, testing, and modifying PLC programs and control system components; coordinating with process control staff on communications and interface issues.
  • Developing and revising protection strategies for feeder relays and motors.
  • Creating draft designs for new or replacement electrical controls.
  • Assessing project scope for repair, replacement, and installation work, including resource needs.
  • Maintaining equipment databases, automated data files, and project documentation to support long-term maintenance planning.
  • Providing technical expertise and work direction to staff and contractors on control system maintenance, repair, and installation projects.
