About The Position

MITRE is currently seeking an industrial organization economist or related field to support the continued growth of our portfolio of applied microeconomics work across an exciting and diverse set of sponsors. We are focused on solving problems for a safer world, we conduct quantitative economic modeling and analysis to inform and assess the impacts of changes to domestic and international policies, regulations, technology, infrastructure, and events. Our deep technical expertise and breadth of perspective provide insights across many topics. Our team has expertise in advanced econometrics, macroeconomics and microeconomics, industrial organization, labor, international trade and finance, forecasting, policy analysis, computable general equilibrium modeling, complex valuations, and spatial modeling/statistics. Our backgrounds as just as diverse, with applied experience in government, industry, and academia. We also partner with leading practitioners from universities around the world in developing world class and one-of-a-kind capabilities. Our work includes sponsorship from across government agencies, as well as a robust applied research program.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience wo can immediately contribute at this job step. Academic (teaching, research) experience counts towards minimum
  • Experience in Advanced econometrics, specifically structural econometric modeling (ie. GMM Generalized Method of Moments)
  • Strong attention and accountability to detail.
  • Oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams, departments, and other organizations.
  • Creatively develop solutions to overcome data limitations when needed
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance
  • Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the following topic areas is desired, but not required: industrial organization, international trade, international finance, supply chains, critical infrastructure, and/or defense.
  • Mathematical modeling
  • Experience with computable general equilibrium modeling is desired, not required.
  • Experience working with government sponsors and agencies desired, not required.
  • PhD, PhD Candidate in Economics

Responsibilities

  • Develop custom research using advanced economic and econometric techniques (time series, panel, discrete choice, reduced form causal inference, structural modelling, etc.)
  • Handling large datasets to conduct data driven analysis
  • Analysis in support of regulatory policy, pre- and post-implementation analysis
  • Communicating the results of research as actionable / practical solutions to internal and external stakeholders
  • Creative application of economic theory and models in multiple domains when facing data constraints
