About The Position

The Industrial Numerical Control (NC) Burner Operator nests parts to be cut by NC burning machines and coordinates burning activities in the Plate Shop. The role involves ensuring the correct materials and piece markings are used, maintaining machine maintenance records and completing daily maintenance, keeping plate inventory records, inspecting overhead cranes, and distributing cut parts to the correct job site. The position also includes other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Approximately 80–90% of work activities are performed outdoors. The work may involve changing temperatures and hot, cold, humid, wet, dry, dusty, or muddy conditions. Gulf Island requires applicants to be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and does not sponsor work visas.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of NC programming experience.
• Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Pass a background check.
• Meet the physical demands of standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, turning, twisting, bending, balancing, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
• Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50–75 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of the practices and procedures of cutting machines.
• Computer knowledge.
• Forklift experience.

Responsibilities

• Nest piece-marked plates from the Lofting department.
• Ensure all parts are cut from the correct material.
• Confirm piece markings are present on the corresponding pieces when cut.
• Validate that daily maintenance records are kept for all NC burning machines.
• Ensure daily maintenance is completed on all NC burning machines.
• Keep plate inventory records.
• Perform overhead crane inspections in the Plate Shop.
• Ensure all cut parts are distributed to the correct job site.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
