ENG Numerical Control Machining Programmer

Consolidated Nuclear Security•Oak Ridge, TN

About The Position

Responsible for numerical control (NC) programming for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), including preparing associated work instructions and providing shop-floor support and troubleshooting. The role works with individual and multidisciplinary teams of design, manufacturing, and quality personnel in production areas to determine manufacturing design practices, process plans, equipment setup and tooling requirements, programming needs, and schedule commitments. The programmer incorporates software and programming strategies for advanced manufacturing and inspection techniques. Product definitions may be supplied in paper or electronic model formats, so 3-D CAD is required. The role uses both paper and electronic formats to produce information supporting NC program generation, post-processing, and shop-floor downloads; provides software quality assurance support, including user testing of new and existing software systems; and supports the transition from drawing-centric to model-centric manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Twelve or more years of relevant education, training, and/or progressive experience may be considered in place of the education and experience requirements.

  • Experience with computer programming, 3-D CAD systems, and CMMs.
  • Knowledge and experience using desktop computer systems and standard office software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings of mechanical equipment and components, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Strong spatial visualization skills and competency in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
