About The Position

CHEP is hiring a Nail Maintenance Operator for its Temple, Texas team. The Maintenance-Only Repair Operator performs minor pallet repairs to extend pallet lifespan and restore functionality while meeting safety and quality standards. Work includes removing damaged or protruding nails, replacing defective boards, and attaching missing or loose pieces. The role calls for attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work independently while following repair guidelines. This is a warehouse or manufacturing environment with prolonged standing and possible exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Personal protective equipment is required. The position is on second shift, Monday through Friday, from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The listed pay is $20 per hour, plus a $0.75-per-hour second-shift differential.

Requirements

Familiarity with operating and maintaining hand and production tools, such as a pneumatic nail gun, or other relevant tools and equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Communication, tool-handling, observation, time-management, and hand-eye coordination skills.
Ability to work flexibly in an ever-changing environment and willingness to learn.
Essential language: English.
Ability to use a nail gun frequently, approximately 35 pounds, and frequently drag or pull pallets weighing up to 75 pounds.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods and work in an environment with possible noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a production support or materials handling role, preferably in manufacturing.
Experience in a fast-paced and dynamic production environment.
Basic understanding of quality control procedures.
Manufacturing or assembly experience.

Responsibilities

Identify and remove damaged or protruding nails from pallets using appropriate tools.
Evaluate pallets for damaged, broken, or compromised boards and replace defective boards with proper alignment and structural integrity.
Identify missing or loose pallet pieces and use hand tools to attach or replace components.
Follow safety protocols when handling and transporting lumber, wear required personal protective equipment, and promptly report safety hazards or concerns.
Inspect repaired pallets to ensure they meet quality and safety standards and report deviations from repair guidelines.
