About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and the direct supervision of the Lead of Maintenance, performs repair and maintenance work associated with the equipment, buildings and grounds of water treatment plants, reservoirs, and pumping stations.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent as per the Ministry of the Environment certification guidelines
  • Journeyman Certification as a millwright
  • Must have proven practical experience in operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial pumps, piping, valves, compressors and other industrial machinery.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering, construction and mechanical drawings
  • Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions
  • Must be tactful and courteous with the public
  • Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers License, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation

Nice To Haves

  • Currently possess or be eligible to attain a Class III Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Treatment Subsystems.
  • Currently possess or be eligible to attain a Class IV Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Distribution Subsystems

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance as assigned, or as outlined by the Preventative Maintenance System.
  • Operates valves, pumps, generators, controls and other equipment as necessary.
  • Maintains and inputs information into the Preventative Maintenance System by entering work performed, parts used, and time required to perform work on work orders.
  • Monitors assigned equipment, identifies and reports equipment wear, abnormalities, breakdowns, and repairs required.
  • Repairs or replaces equipment or parts that break down or show wear or malfunction.
  • Performs general building and grounds repairs as required.
  • Obtains necessary parts, supplies, and tools, from inventory, and is accountable for their return or assignment to Work Orders.
  • Performs minor standardization and calibration on instruments.
  • Performs the duties of Operator.
  • Repairs and maintains chlorinators and analyzers.
  • Performs maintenance on flow and pressure transmitters.
  • Cleans and maintains screens and filtering systems.
  • Performs the duties of the Water Quality Technician as required.
  • Performs and assists with confined space entries using self-contained breathing apparatus as required.
  • Actively participates in a teamwork environment.
  • Signs off on hours worked by Apprentices participating in the Industrial Millwright Apprentice Program.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
