About The Position

EJ is hiring a Summer 2027 Industrial / Mechanical Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience at a modern iron foundry that began operations in November 2018. The intern will work on real-world problem-solving and contribute to operational excellence by designing fixtures for automated grinding equipment, programming CNC machines, and supporting Lean manufacturing practices. Work may include process improvement efforts focused on analyzing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and reducing downtime. The intern is also expected to promote EJ’s culture, mission, vision, and core values, including its safety beliefs, employee engagement, code of conduct, and policies and procedures.

EJ is a family-owned company with global operations and corporate headquarters in East Jordan, Michigan. It designs, manufactures, and distributes access solutions for water, sewer, drainage, telecommunications, and utility networks.

Requirements

• Be a sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a related field at a four-year college or university.
• Be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design fixtures for automated grinding equipment.
• Program CNC machines using Fanuc and Beckhoff controllers.
• Implement Lean manufacturing practices, including process improvements focused on OEE analysis and downtime reduction.
• Promote the company’s culture, mission, vision, and core values, including safety beliefs, employee engagement, competencies, code of conduct, and other policies and procedures.
