About The Position

Gerdau is a major steel manufacturing company, operating in 10 countries, and employing over 30,000 individuals. The North American business divisions (Gerdau Long Steel North America and Gerdau Specialty Steel North America) produce long and special steel products for the agriculture, energy, industrial, automotive, and manufacturing markets. We stimulate the economy through our network of recycling operations and mills, operating ten mills in the U.S. and three in Canada. Our mills utilize efficient and clean production practices, including the use of electric arc furnace (EAF) technology. Requirements

  • Must be registered in an approved Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – 433A apprenticeship program with Skilled Trades Ontario AND have passed both Level 1 and Level 2 of in-school training OR have a minimum of 4000 hours of documented apprenticeship employment experience.
  • Be able to work in all areas in the plant and complete the Apprentice Rotation.
  • Be able to work shift rotation (days/nights) as outlined in the Apprentice Training Schedule.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, with exposure to Bearings, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Lubrication, Rotating Equipment.
  • Strong communication and work ethic, ability to work in a team and with other trades

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working safely in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Work under the guidance of plant Supervisors and Journeyman skilled trades.
  • Work toward completing hours for all competency skill sets as defined by Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Inspect, install, repair, replace, adjust mechanical equipment in the plant.
  • Service the mechanical aspects of pumps, motors, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of production machinery to optimize machine efficiencies and equipment reliability.
  • Apply lubricants used in the preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Receive instructions, prints, and work orders, covering scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection work.
  • Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and materials usage on computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), work orders, logbooks, and checklists.
  • Perform rounds and checks machinery condition using checklists or digital tools to identify abnormalities and ensure that machine functions are operating within the normal specifications.
  • Operate power driven mobile equipment and ordinary crane hooking.
