About The Position

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will plan, organize, schedule, assign and review maintenance work. This role involves performing a variety of responsible duties related to the supervision of maintenance activities, as well as training, supervising, and evaluating the work of assigned employees. The position requires comfort in a fast-paced environment and the ability to enforce company rules, policies, and procedures, including safety, discipline, cooperation, and teamwork. The supervisor must provide necessary tools and support for mechanics to be successful, including morale, training, and tool access. A key aspect of this role is to enforce a safety-first, quality-always culture, avoiding temporary fixes on equipment and ensuring permanent solutions are implemented within 24 hours of any temporary fix. The role also includes administrative responsibilities such as monitoring and approving timecards, enforcing attendance policies, evaluating mechanic skills, maintaining a training matrix, and taking ownership of team performance. Involvement in performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, 1-on-1 coaching, interviewing, hiring, and terminating mechanics is expected. Collaboration with the Maintenance Manager and/or Process Improvement leads for root cause analysis (RCAs) and action completion is also a part of this role. Effective communication with other shift supervisors during shift hand-offs and generating shift performance reports are crucial. The supervisor must also effectively escalate issues according to the escalation policy. Other duties may be assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • General Microsoft Office skills and experience in maintenance management software systems (Preventative Maintenance, Project Tasks and Corrective Action)
  • Must be proficient with Excel (sorting data, adding/removing columns, updating data and making calculations)
  • Excellent communication and delegation skills
  • Ability to investigate and diagnose causes of breakdowns- proactive vs reactive approach
  • Sound technical skills, logical ability, and strong problem analysis and resolutions skills with a strong operational focus
  • Abilty to work independently on daily projects
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to gather and analyze all types of data, identify the appropriate relationships between the different data, anticipate business directions and recommend fact based decisions
  • Prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in production maintenance, or in a related area, including some supervisory or lead experience
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, procedures, and the proper use and care of tools and equipment
  • Attend all food safety training sessions (GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, Food Facility Security, Preventing Foodborne Illness)
  • Participate in company GMP walks
  • Enforce company rules regarding food safety and monitoring

Responsibilities

  • Compare delegated tasks & end of shift report to hours worked. Reconcile hours with Mechanics to ensure 100% utilization
  • Schedule mechanics for weekend & vacation coverage
  • Manage overtime usage and control
  • Track effectiveness of PM’s & adjust PM tasks
  • Provide administrative support with ManagerPlus which will include but not limited to the following: Review PMs and WOs assigned to shift and delegate appropriately to mechanics. Ensure the accuracy of data being entered into M+ by the mechanics (through audits, OJSs, etc.). Work closely with PM coordinator to constantly review/edit maintenance plans in M+. Work closely with Parts coordinator to manage inventory, parts ordering, min/max level adjustments, etc.
  • Maintain organization & cleanliness of Maintenance Shop
  • Develop and prepare work schedules for crew, contractors; review maintenance reports and work orders; prioritize and coordinate duties and assignments to assure effective workflow
  • Publish daily mechanic tasks based on priorities set by Operations Management
  • Ensure mechanics are supporting Production personnel & providing a positive service
  • Enforce the inspections of lines to determine maintenance and repair needed and quality of work performed.
  • Identify and report opportunities for improvement
  • Completes special projects as assigned
  • Enforce company rules, policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, discipline, cooperation and teamwork.
  • Provide necessary tools and support for mechanics to be successful (morale, training, tool access)
  • Must be able to perform duties of a mechanic, and be willing to step in when necessary
  • Must enforce a safety-first, quality-always culture, and avoid performing temporary fixes on the equipment. When it is necessary to use a temporary fix, enforce the implementation of a permanent solution within 24 hours of the temporary fix.
  • Monitor and approve timecards of mechanics
  • Enforce attendance policy with mechanics on shift (administer coaching, CoC points, etc.)
  • Evaluate skills of mechanics, maintain a documented training matrix, and take ownership of the performance of the team
  • Be involved in performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, 1 on 1 coaching, etc.
  • Be involved in interviewing, hiring, terminating mechanics on shift.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Manager and/or Process Improvement leads to develop RCAs and pursue completion of actions assigned
  • Communicate effectively with other shift supervisors during shift hand-off, as well as generate reports of shift performance.
  • Effectively escalate any issues utilizing escalation policy
