About The Position

Maintain and repair production and packaging equipment in a fast-paced spice manufacturing facility. This role supports all areas of the plant, requiring a hands-on, self-directed mechanic who can troubleshoot, prioritize, and maintain equipment with minimal supervision while ensuring food safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment maintaining and repairing production machinery required.
  • Strong working knowledge of techniques used with a variety of tools, machines and processes to complete maintenance and repair projects.
  • Advanced general maintenance skills: painting, drywall, carpentry, etc.
  • Basic plumbing experience with PVC, copper, and metal pipe.
  • Possess a working knowledge of AC-DC motors and controls, metering, power distribution, electronics process control computers, welding, conduit, and schematics.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt in a small team environment.
  • Possess a high mechanical aptitude and be able to use various mechanical hand and power tools and equipment correctly and safely in the maintenance process.
  • Must be familiar with and routinely use all personal safety procedures and equipment related to the duties of this position, ensuring safety is a priority during all activities.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills and the ability to use an iPad and related software.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Forklift experience required
  • Scissor lift and aerial lift experience required
  • Push, pull, lift and/or carry heavy product such as equipment, bags and/or drums weighing up to 100lbs frequently
  • Walk and stand for extended periods across large production areas
  • Ability to climb on and off equipment and forklift occasionally
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Able to extend arms with hands over the head or at shoulder height
  • Hold, grasp, or turn with the use of hands
  • Kneel, stoop, or bend downwards and forward
  • Ascend or descend ladders and platforms
  • Stand, work, and walk at heights on platforms at least six feet or higher
  • Express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words. Convey detailed instructions to others
  • Able to hear, understand and distinguish speech and/or other sounds such as machinery alarms
  • Near and far visual acuity required
  • Work in an environment that is noisy and contains airborne spice dust, strong odors, and varying levels of heat
  • Withstand working in cold and hot temperatures for long periods of time
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Able to work occasional overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must have tools for the trade

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of dust collection systems and combustible dust safety is a plus
  • Familiarity with food safety standards such as GMPs, HACCP, and allergen control preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, diagnose, correct, prevent, and repair industrial production equipment and facility machinery, including blenders, scaling systems, sifters, vertical form filling machines, hammer and roller mills, using various tools such as drill presses, grinders, saws, and hand tools.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues in real time, identify root cause, and implement practical fixes to keep production running.
  • Respond quickly to production downtime and work with operators to restore equipment to service as safely and efficiently as possible.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs of electrical systems consisting of 120v, 220v, 480v.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (PMs) to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of the buildings is maintained.
  • Perform work orders, improvements, and CM activities on production equipment to ensure equipment life and uptime, as well as quality production and reliability.
  • Use iPad to access, interpret, respond, prioritize, complete, and close work orders.
  • Monitor condition of equipment and plan preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and support consistent production schedules.
  • Clean, inspect, and charge forklifts regularly.
  • Follow GMP and sanitation practices and ensure all maintenance work complies with food safety standards, including preventing product contamination.
  • Take ownership of safety processes; perform maintenance safety program audits (LOTO, Confined Space, Fall Protection, PPE, mobile equipment, etc.) and ensure compliance with food manufacturing safety and sanitation standards.
  • Perform general maintenance as assigned within all local facilities, including production areas, packaging rooms, and storage warehouses.
  • Assist in inventory control of maintenance parts and supplies, with attention to critical spare parts for small-plant operations.
  • Support equipment changeovers, line setup, and adjustments for different spice blends and packaging runs.
  • Communicate equipment issues, completed repairs, and parts needs clearly to management and production teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
