About The Position

We’re seeking a Industrial Hygiene Technician to support occupational health, exposure monitoring, radiation safety initiatives, and workplace compliance programs at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center. This position is contingent upon contract award with an anticipated start date of September 2026. The Industrial Hygiene Technician supports occupational and environmental health programs at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) by assisting with workplace health and safety initiatives, industrial hygiene activities, exposure monitoring, inspections, environmental sampling, and regulatory compliance support. This role works closely with Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Medicine, and Safety personnel to help maintain a safe and compliant work environment across laboratories, industrial shops, hangars, research facilities, and operational work areas. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable working in both office and field environments while supporting federal occupational health and environmental compliance programs.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Public Health, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting environmental health, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or related programs.
  • Experience performing workplace sampling, inspections, or environmental monitoring activities.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational health principles.
  • Completion of the AIHA Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene Course required.
  • Health Physics Technician Level 1 certification (Radiation Associates) or comparable radiation safety training required.
  • Hands-on experience with radiation instrumentation and monitoring equipment required.
  • Ability to use industrial hygiene sampling equipment and field monitoring instruments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic data systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting federal contracts or government facilities.
  • Familiarity with NASA occupational health requirements or similar federal programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental health and industrial hygiene field activities, inspections, and surveys.
  • Conduct workplace exposure monitoring and sampling activities related to: Noise, Air contaminants, Indoor air quality, Thermal stress, Ventilation systems, Hazardous materials, Radiation and laser safety support.
  • Support occupational health and environmental compliance programs in accordance with OSHA, NASA, and other applicable federal regulations.
  • Assist with hazard assessments and evaluations for laboratories, industrial shops, maintenance operations, and research facilities.
  • Support respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazard communication, bloodborne pathogen, ergonomics, and chemical hygiene programs.
  • Perform environmental and occupational health data collection, documentation, and record maintenance.
  • Assist with calibration, maintenance, and operation of industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
  • Support incident investigations and workplace health evaluations as directed.
  • Participate in workplace inspections and recommend corrective actions to reduce employee exposure risks.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, exposure assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including Environmental Health, Occupational Medicine, Safety, and operational personnel.
  • Support health promotion, employee education, and safety awareness activities.
  • Maintain accurate records in electronic tracking and reporting systems.
  • Follow all site-specific safety, security, and confidentiality requirements.
