About The Position

As part of Momentive’s continued commitment to the safety and health of its associates, the Sistersville, WV site is seeking an industrial hygiene specialist/safety professional to fill the position of Safety and Health Specialist – Industrial Hygiene. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the site to a proactive safety culture, ensuring a safe work environment, influencing the company’s safety culture plan, and most importantly improving the lives of our employees. The Sistersville, WV location is a chemical manufacturing site with functions including chemical operations, maintenance, warehousing, utilities operations (including environmental controls), laboratory analysis, technology and administrative/business functions. This role partners with the site’s Production, Engineering, and Environmental Health and Safety Leadership to meet the key elements of the site’s annual EH&S goals. The position reports directly to the Industrial Hygiene Lead, under the management of the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety. Please note that this role requires onsite presence five days per week, Monday through Friday Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial hygiene, EHS, or a similar role
  • Solid understanding of industrial hygiene fundamentals, including exposure assessment, sampling methods, and the hierarchy of controls
  • Ability to analyze monitoring data, conduct research, and make practical, risk-based recommendations
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility
  • Experience supporting or leading industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring programs
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and working with data and digital tools
  • Ability to safely wear required PPE (respiratory protection, chemical protective clothing, fall protection, etc.) and work in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with employees and site leadership
  • Flexibility to support extended hours or emergency response when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and selecting appropriate exposure controls
  • Experience working cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, engineering, or emergency response teams
  • A continuous improvement mindset and willingness to challenge and improve existing processes
  • Professional certifications such as GSP, ASP, or OHST (or progress toward them)
  • Interest in continuing education and professional development in EHS or Industrial Hygiene

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain site exposure assessments to clearly identify health hazards and characterize employee exposure profiles, including qualitative assessments and quantitative Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Develop and execute the annual Industrial Hygiene sampling plan, including area and personal monitoring.
  • Collect and manage IH samples (dusts, gases, vapors, and other potentially hazardous materials), ensuring proper chain of custody, sample integrity, and laboratory coordination.
  • Review, interpret, and trend monitoring results; maintain accurate data within the IH database (Gensuite).
  • Communicate exposure monitoring results to employees, site leadership, and the Industrial Hygiene Leader.
  • Serve as the site subject-matter expert for Industrial Hygiene programs, including chemical monitoring, asbestos control, noise and hearing conservation, PPE, ergonomics, and radiation safety.
  • Drive exposure reduction and risk mitigation initiatives in partnership with operations, engineering, and site leadership.
  • Support quantitative risk assessments and exposure reduction efforts related to chemical, noise, and ergonomic hazards.
  • Evaluate ventilation systems, exhaust equipment, and workplace conditions to identify opportunities to improve employee health, comfort, and performance.
  • Provide training and professional support for IH programs, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Radiation Safety, and chemical-specific programs.
  • Conduct respiratory protection quantitative fit testing and routinely audit program components and consumables.
  • Support emergency response preparedness by providing IH training and technical guidance to Emergency Response Teams and site personnel.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, NRC) as needed and ensure ongoing compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Support Industrial Hygiene considerations in the design, installation, and modification of equipment and facilities through the site Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Serve as a technical resource during incident investigations, root cause analyses, and emergency response activities.
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace practices, equipment, and environments to ensure regulatory compliance and safe work conditions.
  • Recommend and help implement controls to reduce or eliminate health and safety risks, including exercising stop-work authority when immediate hazards are identified.
  • Collaborate with engineering, medical, HR, Legal, and Health Services teams as needed.
  • Manage and maintain IH monitoring equipment, ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, and repair.
  • Maintain required training, certifications, licenses, and qualifications, including Radiation Safety Officer responsibilities and ongoing IH/occupational safety education.
  • Support site and corporate EHS initiatives by contributing to leading indicator metrics, improved risk awareness, and the development of a strong, independent safety culture.
