Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Project Environmental Scientist for its Virginia, US Industrial Hygiene (IH) team. The ideal candidate will be an experienced IH specialist with extensive knowledge of chemical exposure assessments, noise surveys, asbestos, lead-paint, hazardous materials, IAQ/mold consulting, and compliance tasks. Duties include conducting field work, preparing project reports, reviewing documentation with stakeholders, and providing mentorship to junior Arcadis staff. State of Virginia asbestos licensing is required, with job-specific training available. This role offers collaboration on diverse projects, opportunities for professional growth, and requires occasional overnight travel and a valid driver’s license. Role accountabilities: As a member of the IH CoP, you will collaborate with junior staff, senior technical experts, and project managers in multidisciplinary environmental teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science preferred or equivalent years of experience.
  • 10+ years in consulting or professional services preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations related to asbestos and mold
  • State of Virginia asbestos licensing is required
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred
  • RCRA/DOT Hazardous Waste Shipping Training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with agencies, management, staff, and subcontractors to define scope and schedule for projects.
  • Conduct high-level technical surveys and oversight of subcontractors.
  • Document field activities accurately using provided tools.
  • Review and evaluate field findings.
  • Interpret laboratory data and reports.
  • Prepare technical memorandums, summary reports, and other client deliverables.
  • Perform technical peer-reviews on reports.
  • Provide effective mentoring to junior staff.
