About The Position

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is currently recruiting for 2 Industrial Engineering interns for the summer 2027 intern program. This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment. Flexibility is provided with options to work onsite and hybrid, accommodating school schedules.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate in a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering curriculum with at least 1 year in the program.
  • Require a minimum GPA of 2.75.
  • Ability to work with and learn various computer applications and programs utilized by the area.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Communicate effectively with employees in all organizational levels.
  • Have a proven record of low absenteeism.
  • Need to be self-motivated and be able to carry out activities with a minimum of supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Minitab, Microsoft Access, Visio, and Tableau/Power BI is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze processes/activities and develop recommendations for improvement in operational and functional areas.
  • Quantify savings to the organization based on projects that utilize engineering solutions.
  • Prepare documentation and process maps to support business needs.
  • Establish and/or update work standards through observation and time studies of activities in processing units.
  • Analyze activity observations/timings and calculate standard work times utilizing Workstudy+ software.
  • Develop/maintain systems supported by Engineering Services.
  • Prepare and/or design new reports and programs as needed.
  • Regularly correspond with and answer questions from supervision and management concerning the systems maintained by Engineering Services.
  • Present summer projects in a final presentation to leadership.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
