About The Position

Flex is seeking an Industrial Engineering Co-Op for Spring 2027 at its Orangeburg, SC site. This role supports continuous improvement initiatives in fulfillment and server assembly/testing operations within a warehouse environment. The co-op will gain hands-on experience in process optimization, data analysis, and lean manufacturing principles in a high-tech setting. The position involves analyzing and improving workflows, supporting assembly and testing operations, collecting and analyzing production data, participating in layout design, developing standard work instructions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting time studies and KPI tracking. All processes are within a warehouse, managing the delivery chain and product customization until final customer delivery.

Requirements

  • Junior/Senior (undergrad student), currently pursuing Industrial Engineering degree, or related major.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or similar data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in hardware assembly and testing processes.
  • Knowledge of process mapping and value stream analysis.
  • Basic understanding of server hardware components.
  • Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for Spring 2027 school semester.
  • Currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university.
  • 3.0 minimum GPA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Arena, FlexSim) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analyzing and improving fulfillment workflows, including material flow, packaging, and shipping processes.
  • Support assembly and testing operations for servers, focusing on cycle time reduction and quality improvement.
  • Collect and analyze production data (HPU, throughput, takt time) to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions.
  • Participate in layout design and optimization for assembly and test stations.
  • Develop standard work instructions and contribute to process documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Production, Logistics) to implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Support time studies, ergonomic assessments, and capacity planning.
  • Assist in KPI tracking and reporting for operational performance.
