About The Position

OPmobility is seeking a hands-on Site Industrial Engineer to lead operational excellence, capacity planning, labor optimization, and manufacturing process improvement at our Elkhart battery manufacturing operation. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys being on the production floor, working directly with Production Leads and frontline teams, and turning data into practical improvements. You will help establish operating standards, remove production barriers, improve labor and equipment utilization, and drive sustainable results across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, automation, or operational excellence experience preferred.
  • Strong experience with Lean manufacturing, time studies, labor planning, line balancing, capacity analysis, standard work, OEE, and structured problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvement projects and influence Production Leads, operators, and cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Strong floor presence, data-analysis skills, and the ability to drive actions through completion.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive, battery systems, power electronics, high-complexity assembly, equipment launch, or end-of-line testing experience is highly valued.
  • Power BI, SAP, CAD/layout tools, automation, controls, or programming exposure is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, waste-reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Improve manufacturing processes, layouts, material flow, workstations, cycle times, labor standards, capacity, and ergonomics.
  • Conduct time studies, line balancing, bottleneck analysis, and capacity planning.
  • Translate customer demand and takt requirements into practical staffing, skill, and shift needs.
  • Monitor and improve labor efficiency, productivity, OEE, capacity utilization, downtime, and direct labor cost.
  • Partner with Production Leads to strengthen standard work, floor execution, visual management, shift handoffs, cross-training, and daily accountability.
  • Lead structured problem-solving, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and sustained process improvements.
  • Support equipment specifications, supplier reviews, commissioning, Run@Rate readiness, startup, and production handoff.
  • Maintain process documentation, labor standards, layouts, work instructions, training materials, and improvement roadmaps.
  • Support PFMEA, process-risk reduction, audit readiness, and ISO/IATF requirements.
