About The Position

Provides industrial engineering consultation in support of operational and productivity improvements. This role involves maintaining capacity planning models, creating and maintaining 'Plan for Every Part' documents for new business quotes, program launches, capacity updates, and service operations. The engineer will develop and administer a plant layout process based on Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Systematic Handling Analysis (SHA) principles to optimize material handling, including flow and storage, and maintain associated drawings. Responsibilities also include holding plant layout reviews, assisting with the development and maintenance of a plant-wide scheduling and inventory system (WMS), applying time and motion study techniques, evaluating forklift truck and driver utilization, and recommending optimization changes. The role involves recommending, developing, and implementing cost reduction ideas, assisting with improvement activities, CI project management, lean tool usage, evaluating 'what if' scenarios for operational processes and product design, benchmarking other companies, revising IE support functions, and evaluating idea submissions. Additionally, the position requires performing process modeling and analysis using value stream tools and simulation software, participating in Six Sigma projects, and complying with Nascote's ISO14001, TS16949, and Health and Safety policies. The role may require working any shift, overtime, weekends, and occasional travel, as well as participating in all required training.

Requirements

  • Solid Industrial Engineering skills, including material flow, process flow, and time & motion study.
  • Ability to achieve results using Industrial Engineering methods.
  • Understanding of production scheduling and inventory control.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong math skills and understanding of statistics.
  • Ability to develop and maintain working models of computer-based evaluation tools.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities in support of management’s priorities and goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to readily resolve conflicts and maintain progress on tasks and projects.
  • Be able to adjust to changing needs and conditions.
  • Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office software.
  • Must learn Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Systematic Handling Analysis (SHA).
  • Must be a self-starter, open minded and a team player.
  • Basic understanding of 8D, APQP and SPC.
  • Basic understanding of standardized work and kaizen activity.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate capacity planning model.
  • Create & maintain Nascote’s ‘Plan for Every Part’ documents (Operating Plan Calculations) for new business quotes, new program launches, capacity updates, and service operations.
  • Develop and administer a plant layout process, built around Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Systematic Handling Analysis (SHA) principles, that optimizes material handling (to include material flow and storage requirements) and maintain associated drawings and documentation.
  • Hold plant layout reviews with production area owners.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of a plant wide scheduling and inventory system (WMS).
  • Apply time and motion study techniques.
  • Evaluate forklift truck and driver utilization and recommend truck assignment & driver manning optimization changes to production department management.
  • Recommend, develop and help implement cost reduction ideas.
  • Assist with developing and researching improvement activities.
  • Assist with CI project management.
  • Assist with use of lean tools.
  • Assist with evaluating "what if" changes to operational processes and product design.
  • Assist with benchmarking other companies.
  • Assist with revising IE support functions and tools to support continuous improvement.
  • Assist with evaluating and providing feedback on idea submissions.
  • Perform process modeling and analysis using value stream tools and simulation software as assigned.
  • Participate in Six Sigma projects.
  • Comply with Nascote's ISO14001, TS16949 and all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • May require working any shift, overtime, weekends and occasional travel.
  • Participate in all Magna and Nascote required training.
  • Perform other tasks as required.
