About The Position

An Industrial Engineer at Bedford GPS will work directly with production and engineering in implementing and improving Lean Manufacturing systems. The main purpose of the Industrial Engineer is to work to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, person-hours, machine time, energy and other resources that do not generate value. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to succeed in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Industrial Engineering or 2+ years equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing Engineering or Plant IE experience
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • High level of computer, written, and oral communication skills
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusually difficult.
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Knowledge of Standardized Work (STDS), Simulations, Man-Machine Charts, Time Studies, and Throughput Improvement Process (TIP).
  • Previous Manpower Planning experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop, recommend, and implement changes which will result in the improvement of manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze throughput data to determine plant bottlenecks then work with the production, maintenance, and tooling teams to eliminate the bottleneck while utilizing the TIP process.
  • Work to improve efficiencies through waste elimination and process improvements.
  • Support production department productivity optimization plan.
  • Perform data analysis to improve shop metrics and tackle complex problems.
  • Provide Technical support and assistance to manufacturing and maintenance team members, production supervisors and production associates.
  • Support GMS (Global Manufacturing System) strategies including resource support for production team, improvements to standard work, and basketweave team support as needed.
  • Assist in establishing operational methods and work standards using various measurement techniques such as cycle time studies, STDS.
  • Maintain plant headcount and forecasting of manpower.
  • Learn and assist in developing the plant headcount budget annually.
  • Update Global Workbook with Hours per unit and Headcount data monthly.
  • Use forecast volumes to analyze machine utilization as needed.
  • Optimize use of floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment.
  • Provide analysis for special projects, cost studies, etc. as needed.
