About The Position

The Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) group is looking to fill a multi-purpose Industrial Engineering position. This position will support Electric Boat’s Manufacturing Technology programs (ManTech, NSRP, M&PE and more) as well as supporting EB’s Integrated Enterprise Plan (IEP) for Work Center Modernization strategy. The team’s objective is to facilitate the identification and development of advanced submarine manufacturing technologies and processes, integrate EB organizations manufacturing technology initiatives, and ensure a strategic, structured and integrated approach to advancing the manufacturing capabilities at Electric Boat. Candidates will be responsible for managing improvement efforts to support increased shipyard capacity as well as efforts in cost and schedule reductions for VA and CLB Class construction. This will include research of new and emerging manufacturing technologies, assessing ‘state of the industry’ capabilities for potential in our business, and assessing facility, tooling and equipment needs and improvements. Candidates will be responsible for establishing an achievable implementation path for projects via the COLUMBIA Design for Affordability Cost Reduction Database items (CRDs) or other equivalent programs. This will include business case development for potential improvement efforts and utilizing EB business systems, such as PowerBI, Team Center etc. Candidates will also be responsible for supporting the Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) program. In this program, candidates will serve as project manager on one or more technology R&D projects. Candidates must have the ability to develop detailed Statements of Work (SOW), analyze Request for Proposal (RFP), along with developing budgets, schedules, Return on Investment (ROI) calculations and Technology Transition Plans (TTPs) for each project. The candidate will also be required to interface with NAVSEA and other Government entities, Academia, private vendors and several EB Departments, such as Design/Engineering, Operations (both QP and Groton), Support Trades, Contracts, Finance, Cost Engineering, Business Development, Purchasing and all levels of Planning (Advanced, Detail and Production Control). Selected candidates will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision and in a team environment. Candidates must be capable of combining initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as Change Agents to remove barriers that hinder progress. Travel to QP and Groton required once a week. This is an on-site position.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or an Engineering Degree
  • 1-5 years of post graduate Engineering experience
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team including all levels of Management
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function independently as required
  • Proficiency with MS Project (to develop project schedules)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills (Pivot tables, databases, Visual Basic Macros)
  • Respected individual with a proven track record of achievement
  • Motivated, performance driven individual with strong leadership skills
  • Able to combine initiative with professionalism to accomplish difficult tasks
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving skills
