About The Position

As an Industrial Engineer Intern at Viasat, you will join the Operational Excellence team and help analyze and improve manufacturing-line performance. Using Discrete Event Analysis with ProModel, you will identify inefficiencies, develop data-driven solutions, and support process improvements alongside Senior Industrial or Lean Practitioners. The role focuses on optimizing workflows, reducing waste, improving productivity, and contributing to Lean initiatives and continuous improvement. You will gather and analyze manufacturing data, run simulations, identify improvement opportunities, and present findings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect data, communicate insights, and support implementation. Improvement areas may include floor layout, resource optimization, flow design, line balancing, visual management, and other factory-level applications of Lean/TPS, Six Sigma, Agile, and TOC. Work may involve on-floor observations, urgent operational escalations, and supplier assessments. The internship is site-based. Site-based employees work at least three days (60% or more) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five-day work week; onsite or hybrid arrangements depend on the individual role and team. Interns must be available to work 40 hours per week for the full internship duration. Two cohort schedules are offered: May 17–August 6, 2027, or June 21–September 10, 2027. Housing assistance may be available subject to eligibility. Compensation is predetermined based on factors including role, location, and degree level, and is non-negotiable.
