About The Position

Sierra Custom Foods (a div. of Amir Group of Companies) is seeking a licensed Industrial Electrician to join our Maintenance & Facilities team at our further poultry processing facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems throughout our high-volume, food-grade manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring maximum equipment uptime, regulatory compliance, and the safety of all employees.

Requirements

  • Valid 442A Industrial Electrician Certificate of Qualification (Journeyperson) issued by the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of post-certification experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with 3-phase power distribution, motor controls, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and industrial automation systems.
  • Strong understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and applicable CSA standards.
  • Experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and arc flash safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, in confined spaces, and in cold/wet environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a food processing, meat processing, or similarly regulated environment (CFIA/HACCP exposure is a strong asset).
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems (ammonia/Freon) and integration with electrical controls.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Experience with DSI machines is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including motors, motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, panel boards, and distribution equipment up to 600V.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on all electrical equipment to minimize unplanned downtime on production lines.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic instruments.
  • Respond promptly to production breakdowns and emergency electrical failures during all shifts, including on-call situations.
  • Maintain, program, and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) and HMI systems.
  • Ensure all electrical work meets food-grade sanitation standards, including appropriate enclosure ratings (NEMA 4X/IP66+) for wet and washdown environments.
  • Follow CFIA, HACCP, and GMP requirements pertaining to electrical maintenance and installations.
  • Participate in sanitation and hygiene protocols relevant to work in processing and evisceration areas.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Assurance team to support food safety audits and regulatory inspections (CFIA, BRC, SQF).
  • Install new electrical equipment and infrastructure to support plant expansions, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, single-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform conduit bending, pulling wire, and terminating connections for new and modified circuits.
  • Work with contractors and project managers to ensure installations comply with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and CSA standards.
  • Adhere to and champion Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) regulations and Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Implement and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all maintenance activities involving hazardous energy.
  • Perform arc flash assessments and ensure appropriate PPE is used when working on or near live electrical equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and investigations of electrical-related incidents or near-misses.
  • Maintain all work orders, inspection records, and electrical documentation in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
