About The Position

Works under the direction of a Supervisor or designate. This role involves laying out, assembling, installing, repairing, maintaining, connecting, and testing fixtures, apparatus, control equipment, and wiring for electrical and electronic systems and devices in industrial plants. The position requires planning installations from blueprints, sketches, and specifications, and systematically diagnosing faults in electrical and electronic systems and equipment. The work is performed in a water or wastewater environment, solid waste management facilities, solid waste transfer stations, or landfill areas. The role also includes providing work direction and training to other personnel, communicating activities orally and in writing (including preparing reports, work completed details, planning, job costing, and data logging), diagnosing and correcting troubles, handling toxic and corrosive materials safely, reading and interpreting layouts and process control diagrams, using a maintenance management system, programming controllers, data communications, and process monitoring software packages, and working with outside engineering firms and contractors. Regular confined space entry is required. The position may also involve performing related duties that are transient, of an emergency nature, or minor but recurring.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent.
  • Successful apprenticeship for Industrial Electrician.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming controllers, data communications.
  • Must be able to use a personal computer and appropriate process monitoring software packages.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Ontario Construction Maintenance or Industrial Electricians Certificate Qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Reads, interprets and prepares layouts and process control diagrams.
  • Uses and works with maintenance management system.
  • Programs controllers, data communications, and process monitoring software packages.
  • Works with outside engineering firms and contractors, as directed.
  • Regular confined space entry required.
  • As assigned, performs related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.
