About The Position

The Industrial Electrician will independently perform installation, maintenance, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, calibration, potting, molding, test and operation of high and low voltage power systems, substations, power panels, electro/mechanical, electrical/electronic high/low voltage equipment including specialized electrical/electronic systems and control circuits, sub-systems assemblies, sub-assemblies, PC cards, chassis, relays, protective devices, instrumentation components, PLC’s, bridges, hoists, doors, motors, shop machinery, cables, lighting, appliances, clocks, gauges, meters, test equipment, gas and diesel generators, portable electrical equipment and components, etc. May start/stop mobile power generators. Industrial Electricians are responsible for a wide range of tasks, including the installation of electrical systems, the maintenance of existing systems, and the repair of any electrical problems that may arise.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and A recognized apprenticeship training program plus 2 years of experience OR Military or Civilian vocational training plus 2 years of experience OR 5 years of direct work-related skills, knowledge, and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, procedure manuals, schematics & blueprints.
  • Ability to interpret National Electric Code requirements.
  • Ability to perform Lockout Tagout.
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to read and understand electrical drawings and possess ability to work safely on both energized and de-energized equipment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must possess general knowledge of office routines to include scheduling, general office administration, and a working knowledge of standard computer software.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers and work-related computer programs associated with the position, proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Possesses the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
  • Demonstrate effective writing skills as well as understanding of programs and software applications, and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Able to interact with customers and coworkers in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required clearances, badges, area permits, and certifications as required by program and position.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
  • Must be able to pass applicable medical certification.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, adjusts, operates, and tests low and high voltage electrical circuits and systems for optimum efficiency.
  • Tests and analyzes data to effect proper maintenance or adjustments to low and high voltage systems, including (but not limited to) cranes, hoists, lighting, distribution systems and fire alarms.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs controls systems and printed circuit controls.
  • Use electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, measuring devices and shop tools such as: resistance soldering units, meters, scopes, probes, microbrazers, generators, counters, etc.
  • Perform functional and/or operational tests of refurbished, repaired, and modified equipment.
  • May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
  • Participate in extensive training to improve and maintain technical proficiency in various company's product lines building on your skill set.
  • Completes certifications as required by the company.
  • Order and maintain equipment.
  • Inspect equipment on a regular basis.
  • Maintain logs, charts, and records, as required.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, and work areas.
  • Maintains and uses specialized tools and equipment in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering personnel to enhance system performance.
  • Work with verbal information, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical publications, instruction bulletins and applicable National, State, and municipal specifications, codes and ordinances.
  • Maintain certifications, licenses, permits, etc., required for performance of assigned tasks.
  • Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
  • Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification.
  • Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignment.
  • Performs duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.
  • Perform or assist with any departmental operations, under direction, to maintain workflow.
  • Performs other related and/or associated duties as required.
