About The Position

Under general supervision, perform a variety of highly skilled maintenance electrician tasks involving high voltages. This role involves responding to scheduled or emergency situations, troubleshooting and repairing or replacing wiring circuits for various systems including high voltage stations, computerized motor controls, and programmable controllers. The position also includes troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems and apparatus such as conveyor belts, escalators, HVAC, street illumination devices, and pumps. Additionally, the role involves identifying and acquiring parts, inspecting electrical equipment, providing preventative maintenance, testing systems, operating vehicles and equipment, and maintaining records. The job also entails installing new or enhanced electrical services, equipment, or systems, including conduit, wire systems, and motor components. This includes researching costs, gathering materials, wiring, connecting, testing, and coordinating with other trades and departments. A key responsibility is supervising the work of subordinate electricians, which includes assigning, scheduling, guiding, monitoring work, appraising performance, training new employees, and enforcing personnel rules. The role also requires performing duties of coworkers and subordinates as necessary, coordinating system upgrades, and responding to emergency calls.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or higher
  • Two (2) years of journey level electrician experience
  • One (1) year in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance
  • Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state. (Some positions may require a Texas Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License or the equivalent from another state.)
  • Journeyman Electrician’s’ License required at time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Perform terminal and electrical service, equipment and system repair, maintenance, testing and installation tasks to a variety of facilities.
  • Respond to scheduled or emergency situations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace wiring circuits for lights, wind socks and guidance signs, lighting controls, and other systems involving high voltage stations including 460 volt switch gear, computerized motor controls, programmable controllers and other related electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace a variety of electrical systems and apparatus including conveyor belts, lighting circuits, escalators, HVAC, street illumination devices, pumps used in water treatment plants, and storm water pumps.
  • Identify and acquire parts for replacement, maintenance and other work required in accordance with established procurement procedures.
  • Inspect electrical equipment and/or systems.
  • Provide preventative maintenance services.
  • Test and validate results.
  • Operate standard or specialized vehicles and equipment to perform duties.
  • Maintain and update files, records, reports and logs.
  • Observe standard operating procedures and safety practices.
  • Install new or enhanced electrical services, equipment or systems.
  • Install electrical conduit, wire systems, motor components and related electrical devices.
  • Research and identify costs, parts, supplies, equipment and materials.
  • Gather materials and supplies.
  • Wire, connect, test and maintain new service or systems.
  • Coordinate electrical service needs and schedules with other trades, vendors, contractors, departments and others.
  • Install, remove, construct, refurbish and/or perform other tasks associated with the work/area assignment.
  • Supervise the work of subordinate electricians.
  • Assign, schedule, guide and monitor work.
  • Appraise employee performance.
  • Train new employees.
  • Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially.
  • Approve overtime, leave requests and track attendance.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Perform duties of coworkers and subordinates as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences.
  • Coordinate system upgrades with contractors and users to minimize disruption.
  • Respond to emergency calls for service.
