About The Position

Weyerhaeuser's Montana Wood Products is looking to fill an Electrician Trainee (Class V) position at their Kalispell Lumber facility. This role offers a career in skilled trades with on-the-job training, continued growth potential, and a career path limited only by the individual. The manufacturing facilities are highly automated and utilize leading-edge technologies in the wood products industry. Successful trainees will progress through the Electrician Advancement Program, gaining experience with PLCs, automation, instrumentation, motors, process controls, and industrial power systems while increasing responsibilities and pay. The program includes progressive training and position advancement from Trainee through Class I/EET, combining coursework, hands-on skills, and performance-based advancement. Trainees will become familiar with the plant reliability and maintenance plan, electrical systems, and work with a team of electricians and millwrights on preventative and routine maintenance. They will also assist skilled personnel in repairs and projects, design basic electrical control layouts, and perform basic industrial electrical construction according to NFPA 70 National Electric Code, including conduit work and sizing conductors and overcurrent devices. Trainees will also apply new craft knowledge from training assignments and complete designated TPC courses for advancement in the Electrical Progression program.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
Mechanical ability is required
Be able to read and interpret blueprints; electrical schematics and ladder logic
Ability to work closely with supervisors, electricians, millwrights and others; be a team player/leader; good verbal and written communication skills; and demonstrate positive attitude
Demonstrate ability to work safely and care for tools and equipment
Self-starter with the ability to work with and without direct supervision
Knowledge and ability to use Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Show proficiency in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) standards
Demonstrate basic computer skills including Maintenance Management Software, MS Office, Email and Web based programs
Must be able to manage program files as documented in file management SOPs
Must be able to search Knowledgebase and follow written procedures
Must have good performance, safety and attendance records
Candidates must have the ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions
A sense of urgency in terms of maximizing production, and minimizing down time is necessary in this type of manufacturing environment
Willingness to work overtime, odd hours, weekends, holidays and other shifts as required

Responsibilities

Become familiar with the general plant reliability and maintenance plan and responsibilities
Become accustomed with the electrical systems
Work with a team of electricians and millwrights to deliver preventative and routine maintenance
Assist more skilled people in repairs and projects which may include bringing necessary tools and parts to the area they are needed
Design layout and installation of basic electrical controls
Perform basic Industrial Electrical Construction based on NFPA 70 National Electric Code. This includes ability to layout, cut, bend and thread conduit and ability to size conductors and over current devices
Demonstrate ability to apply new craft knowledge in daily work as it is learned from training assignments
Complete designated TPC courses for the required advancement in the Electrical Progression program
Learn to safely troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and process control equipment in a highly automated manufacturing facility
Gain experience with PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC motors, VFDs, industrial networks, instrumentation, and power distribution systems
Participate in a structured training and advancement program designed to develop future journey-level electricians and technical specialists
Demonstrate continuous learning, a strong safety mindset, and a willingness to take on increasingly complex technical assignments
