About The Position

The FastTraCS service within the NC TraCS Institute focuses on identifying, supporting, and advancing the commercialization of translational research. The NC TraCS Institute is funded by the National Institutes of Health through the Clinical and Translational Science Award ( CTSA ) Program, a five-year, $58 million grant dedicated to improving the health of North Carolinians. The Industrial Designer will cultivate and leverage relationships with clinicians, staff, and researchers across the UNC Health system to identify unmet medical needs and develop patient-centered solutions. Working closely with the FastTraCS team, this role will help prioritize opportunities and rapidly design, prototype, test, and validate innovative concepts.

Requirements

  • Experience in design thinking
  • Experience in human factors
  • Experience in CAD/CAM
  • Experience in rapid prototyping
  • Experience in 3D printing
  • Familiarity with medical device regulations
  • Familiarity with quality systems (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820)
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability

  • Excellent organizational and verbal interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with medical device innovation processes, including BioDesign.
