About The Position

Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Industrial Designer I-IV based at our Warehouse Product Development Center (WPDC) in Greenville, NC. Level placement is based on experience, technical expertise, and scope of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science or Fine Arts in Industrial Design.
  • 0-5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience developing industrial design concepts for physical products, equipment, vehicles, or similar manufactured goods.
  • Strong sketching, rendering, and visual communication skills with the ability to present design ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D design tools to create concept models, detailed drawings, renderings, and presentation materials.
  • Understanding of ergonomics, human factors, usability, safety, and user interaction with physical products.
  • Working knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, cost, quality, durability, and producibility.
  • Ability to translate user needs, product requirements, and technical constraints into practical design solutions.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across engineering, product, manufacturing, supplier, and customer-facing teams.
  • Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple design priorities and follow through from concept through production support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in lift trucks or similar industry.
  • Experience creating or supporting product graphics, decals, labels, or visual branding elements is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering, product, manufacturing, customers, and suppliers to develop design concepts for new and existing equipment, using sketches, renderings, 3D models, and physical mock-ups to communicate ideas.
  • Create and refine visual design concepts that balance appearance, usability, ergonomics, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Develop decals, graphics, and warning labels that support product branding, clear communication, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Support the overall look and feel of product families by helping maintain consistent design themes across models and updates.
  • Review design concepts with suppliers and internal teams to confirm materials, production methods, cost considerations, and feasibility before moving designs forward.
