About The Position

The Industrial Designer will be responsible for drafting and designing the function of new and existing products. This role involves actively participating in multifunctional teams to advance assigned projects through the design and development process, culminating in market launch. The designer will research new materials and technologies to enhance design elements in outdoor products, investigate evolving needs for outdoor architectural products, lighting, and furniture, and manage multiple design projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and budget constraints. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including design, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales is essential, as is communication with outside suppliers for component development.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in industrial design, with a portfolio showcasing a range of projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, architecture, environmental design or related.
  • Minimum 3 years of new product development and design experience.
  • High proficiency 3D modeling in SolidWorks, generating parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Expertise in Solidworks, Adobe Creative Suite, and Keyshot.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing materials and rapid prototyping processes.
  • Highly creative self-starter with good organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated pro-active thinker with the ability to quickly conceptualize ideas.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • An understanding of Doc-Vault procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designing new products, advancing each idea from concept to market launch.
  • Being a champion of the design + development process on each product, supporting work from a conceptual, technical, philosophical, and practical perspective.
  • Researching new materials and technologies that elevate design elements in outdoor products.
  • Generating concepts, 3D models and detailed part drawings of new products in SolidWorks.
  • Creating models + mock-ups that include rapid prototyping or hand built.
  • Graphically presenting ideas that support and define design story narratives.
  • Investigating evolving needs of outdoor products as they relate to both commercial and residential environments. Product types include both outdoor architectural products, lighting, and furniture.
  • Managing multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborating with a cross functional team that includes design, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales to bring new products to market.
  • Communicating with outside suppliers to develop ideas for components that work with a product idea.
