About The Position

As a member of the Colgate Toothbrush and Device R&D team, the Industrial Designer will support the design and development of next-generation toothbrushes and oral care devices—balancing ergonomics, technical constraints, and aesthetic desire. You will help champion the design process by translating consumer rituals into tangible solutions, solving complex physical problems, and effectively communicating your vision to our cross-functional partners in Engineering and Marketing. The successful candidate will possess a passion for the Colgate brand, a restless curiosity to learn, and a foundational understanding of what it takes to deliver world-class consumer products. At Colgate, we don't just design objects; we design for people’s health and confidence. A high level of teamwork and empathy is paramount to the success of our studio. We believe that “A Future to Smile About” is a collective effort—we innovate together, and we succeed together.

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial design or 0 years relevant experience with a Masters/MBA degree.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to collaborate with our global partners and manufacturing sites.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and translating ideas into engaging narratives through high-level 2D sketching, digital ideation, and photorealistic KeyShot rendering.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud to communicate design intent and brand identity.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and "making," including operating 3D printers and using shop tools to quickly validate forms and ergonomics.
  • A foundational understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes, with a specific interest in injection molding and assembly.
  • Please include a link to your online portfolio within your resume or application to be considered for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Having a grasp of mechanical design principles and understanding how product architecture and component integration (batteries, motors, etc.) inform the final user-centric design.
  • The ability to generate novel solutions by forming a deep connection with the end user and translating their pain points into design opportunities.
  • Exceptional skills in presenting complex, technical ideas to non-technical audiences (Marketing, Finance, etc.) in a clear and compelling way.
  • A clear understanding of the product development lifecycle—from the "fuzzy front end" of innovation to the realities of production.
  • Experience with or a strong desire to learn about working alongside global manufacturing and cross-functional teams across different time zones and cultures.
  • Eagerness to explore and utilize Generative AI tools (such as Gemini) to accelerate brainstorming, enhance visual storytelling, and explore complex design directions more efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive industrial design efforts across the entire development cycle—from blue-sky brainstorming and ideation sketching to 3D CAD development, high-fidelity rendering, and rapid prototyping, culminating in production-intent 3D data.
  • Seamlessly collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. You will partner with internal chemists and scientists to harmonize chemical science with physical product design, while also working with external design consultancies, contract manufacturers, and technology suppliers to ensure design feasibility and innovation.
  • Engage with cross-functional partners and manufacturing teams from across the globe. You will work with Marketing, Supply Chain, and Production experts in various regions, requiring an open, inclusive mindset and a deep respect for different cultures. We believe that to design for everyone, we must be able to collaborate with everyone.
  • Partner closely with Marketing and Insights teams to define the next generation of toothbrushes and devices. You will ensure every design not only meets technical requirements but solves for the holistic needs and desires of our global consumers.
  • Transform complex consumer insights and cultural trends into tangible, iconic product concepts that improve the daily wellness rituals of millions.
  • Participate in and facilitate user studies to gather actionable feedback. You will apply human factors and ergonomic principles to validate and refine designs within real-world oral care scenarios.
  • Conceptualize disruptive ways to provide new value—whether through smart device integration, sustainable material transitions, or breakthrough cleaning technologies.
  • Uphold and evolve the Colgate Visual Brand Language, ensuring all designs maintain a consistent, premium, and approachable identity recognized worldwide.
  • Be a driving force in our studio culture. We look for positive energy in the face of complex challenges and a genuine eagerness to go the extra mile for the team, the project, and the consumer.
