About The Position

The Industrial Designer III at Amazon is a key partner to the Product teams and Worldwide Engineering, responsible for driving customer requirements for implementing various robotics solutions within Amazon's last-mile delivery network (AMZL). This role involves leading and coordinating design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions, encompassing equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations. The position requires identifying process paths suitable for automation based on factors like labor, cost, safety, and performance, working closely with Process Engineering and Operations partners. Responsibilities also include authoring business cases to introduce automation to the Delivery Stations network in North America to enhance productivity, defining pilot criteria and success metrics for validating prototype units, and collaborating with internal teams to provide technical documentation such as product specifications and integration requirements. The Industrial Designer III will partner with Mechanical, Controls, and Software teams to plan the integration of technologies into operations and work with the simulation team to validate new ideas and concepts for automating manual process paths. Ultimately, this role contributes to designing the "Delivery Station of the future" by combining Robotics, Automation, IoT, and Machine Learning disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in the job offered or a related industrial occupation.
  • One year of experience working in an automation, robotics, or manufacturing environment.
  • One year of experience conducting engineering project management.
  • One year of experience working across the full project lifecycle from analysis and design to implementation.
  • One year of experience with complex projects in operations, processes, or performance improvement.
  • Up to 25% domestic & international travel to perform role responsibilities may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Key partner to work closely with the Product teams and WW Engineering to drive customer (AMZL) requirements for implementing various robotics solutions in AMZL.
  • Lead and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the last mile network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
  • Identify process paths to automate based on various factors; labor, cost, safety, performance, etc. Working with Process Engineering and Operations partners.
  • Author business cases to introduce automation to the Delivery Stations network in NA to improve productivity.
  • Define pilot criteria and success metrics to validate prototype units.
  • Collaboration with internal teams to provide technical documentation such as product specifications, integration requirements, etc.
  • Partner with Mechanical, Controls and Software teams to plan the technologies integration in operation.
  • Partner with simulation team for validating new ideas and concepts to automate manual process paths.
  • Contribute to design the Delivery Station of the future combining Robotics, Automation, IoT and Machine Learning disciplines.
