Summary: The Industrial Designer I creates visually compelling sketches, drawings, and renderings to communicate ideas for internal and external audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design required.
  • 1 year to 2 years of related design experience, either through paid professional experience or education-based design opportunities.
  • Requires knowledge of a recognized professional field and the ability to apply that knowledge to practical issues, analysis, and improvements.
  • Requires knowledge of industrial design principles, visual communication, sketching, rendering, 2D and 3D design development, CAD modeling software, and Adobe Creative Suite products, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Also requires interest in parallel industries that inspire colors, materials, and finishes, such as art and fashion industries.
  • Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record, subject to MVR.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and data entry
  • Occasional standing, walking, and reaching
  • Ability to lift up to 10–15 pounds, if applicable
  • Visual acuity to view screens and read documents

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years to 3 years of design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create visually compelling sketches, drawings, and renderings to communicate requests from internal and external audiences
  • Work in 2D and 3D to guide the development of new products in various materials and processes
  • Create technical internal documents such as manufacturing instructions, operating instructions, owner’s manuals, and design/engineering guideline documents
  • Manage display/library of current and potential materials and manufacturing processes
  • Create artwork and creative direction for graphics, labels, and other 2D art
  • Research and help select new Colors, Materials, and Finishes (CMF) for future products
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
