About The Position

This role is responsible for designing, maintaining, developing, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) within a dynamic industrial environment. The position involves managing electrical systems, including power distribution, motor control, and troubleshooting control panels. A key aspect is PLC programming and networking, ensuring systems meet safety and industry standards. The role also includes electrical project management, cost estimation, material acquisition, and coordination with maintenance and production teams. Additionally, the position focuses on recommending performance improvements, providing technical expertise, and training personnel on industrial processes and systems. Team participation and adherence to Simmons Operating Systems principles are also expected.

Requirements

  • 3 years in PLC and TLC networking experience.
  • Proven knowledge and proficiency in networking, IEEE, ISO, ISA, ANSI, IEC, and NEC standards.
  • Vocational or Technical school in electrical systems or related field.

  • Preference for poultry or pet food processing organization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN).

Responsibilities

  • Manages electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains facilities control panels regarding power distribution, motor control, and overload protection.
  • Conducts PLC programming and networking, including control panel braiding and lateral logic.
  • Responsible for line and conveyor speed setup.
  • Follows National Electrical Code (NEC) during installation and troubleshooting.
  • Deciphers blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Engineers Industrial Control Systems to meet safety standards.
  • Designs and assembles PLCs and operator interface programming for control panels.
  • Ensures control systems meet recognized standards including IEEE, ISO, ISA, ANSI, IEC, and NEC.
  • Maintains facility’s electrical design and configuration control.
  • Prepares conceptual and detailed designs and analysis for digital systems.
  • Involved in electrical project management, reviewing capital project plans from start to end.
  • Provides feedback on work execution and potential problems, including material acquisition, equipment, and manpower coordination with production schedules.
  • Prepares cost estimates as needed.
  • Submits work requisitions for all required components and monitors arrival.
  • Ensures components meet all quality and safety standards specified on the project.
  • Assists in coordinating maintenance and production teams to meet project deadlines.
  • Recommends measures to increase performance by comparing industrial process measurements and controls.
  • Provides technical expertise and consultation to identify and resolve equipment and systems issues.
  • Attends meetings and relays information to non-attending personnel.
  • Communicates and trains personnel in industrial processes and measurements.
  • Conducts training for controls and electrical related systems for maintenance and operations personnel.
  • Provides technical support for turnaround and shutdown activities.
  • Participates in the ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters team cohesiveness regarding major issues like direction, annual plan, budget, and policy changes.
  • Accepts responsibility to identify areas lacking cohesiveness and works with the team to resolve issues.
  • Maintains familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN).
  • Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with systems and the position's role in supporting them.
  • Considers the impact of individual actions on systems and communicates concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
