Position Summary The Industrial Coatings Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with industrial, commercial, municipal, and institutional buyers across New England. This role focuses on selling Rust‑Oleum industrial coatings, Zinsser primers, Seal‑Krete concrete systems, and Benjamin Moore HP maintenance coatings. The ideal candidate understands protective coatings, surface preparation, and application requirements, and is comfortable operating as a consultative seller in a long‑cycle B2B environment. Regular customer visits, project reviews, technical guidance, and proactive business development are essential to success. This is a hunter‑first role - continuously identifying, pursuing, and securing new business while expanding existing accounts.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of outside B2B sales experience in industrial coatings, specialty chemicals, building materials, or a related technical field.
  • Strong working knowledge of primers, epoxies, urethanes, alkyds, concrete coatings, and surface preparation standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical data sheets, specifications, and application requirements.
  • Proven success acquiring new accounts and growing existing business.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Self‑motivated with strong time‑management and organizational abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively across New England.
  • Experience selling industrial coatings or related technical products.
  • Understanding of industrial, commercial, and institutional maintenance environments.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and communicate with engineers, facility managers, contractors, and procurement teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow‑through.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel daily.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for industrial coatings customers, providing expert consultation on product selection, specifications, and application.
  • Represent the full RPM/Rust‑Oleum and Benjamin Moore HP portfolio, including protective enamels, epoxies, urethanes, primers, concrete systems, and specialty coatings.
  • Develop and execute a strategic territory growth plan through proactive prospecting, networking, and relationship‑building.
  • Conduct regular in‑person visits to facilities, plants, job sites, and municipal locations to identify opportunities and support project needs.
  • Prepare detailed proposals, cost‑per‑square‑foot analyses, and technical comparisons.
  • Collaborate with manufacturer representatives to coordinate demos, training, and technical support.
  • Track and pursue municipal and institutional bid opportunities; support compliance and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, sales reports, and forecasts.
  • Provide market feedback on competitive activity, pricing, and product needs.
