Industrial Cleaner Operator
About The Position
Keep buildings clean and orderly by performing heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may also include tending furnaces and boilers, performing routine maintenance, notifying management when repairs are needed, and clearing snow or debris from sidewalks. The role includes monitoring building security and safety, maintaining restrooms, preparing cleaning solutions, and using chemical cleaners and power equipment safely. Entry-level applicants do not need previous work-related skills, knowledge, or experience. Employees receive training ranging from a few days to a few months.
Requirements
- No previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for entry-level work.
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Skills include reading comprehension, active listening, speaking, coordination, equipment selection, time management, equipment maintenance, writing, instructing, and judgment and decision-making.
- Abilities include trunk strength, flexibility, manual dexterity, oral comprehension, static strength, near vision, and oral expression.
Responsibilities
- Monitor building security and safety, including locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use for hazards.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Follow procedures for safely using chemical cleaners and power equipment to avoid damaging floors and fixtures.
- Mix water and detergents or acids to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Notify managers when major repairs or additions to building operating systems are needed.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.

- Perform routine maintenance and, as needed, tend furnaces and boilers and clear snow or debris from sidewalks.
