About The Position

Western Washington University's College of Science and Engineering is seeking a non-tenure-track faculty member to support the new Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) Program on the Peninsulas. This 2+2 Bachelor of Science degree program is designed to serve students on the Olympic Peninsula and surrounding regions, with the first two years completed at regional institutions like Olympic College and the final two years at WWU. The ISE program prepares graduates for careers in fields such as naval shipyard operations, logistics, supply chain management, and healthcare systems. The curriculum focuses on systems design, data analytics, operations research, human factors, quality improvement, and project management, with an emphasis on applied learning, hybrid course delivery, and industry-sponsored capstone projects. The program aims for ABET accreditation. The department maintains a vacancy pool for temporary, part-time teaching positions, with occasional opportunities for full-time appointments, filled on a quarterly basis.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to fulfilling working, teaching, and mentoring responsibilities in ways that provide equitable and inclusive environments for all students, faculty, and staff with diverse social identities and backgrounds
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Industrial & Systems Engineering courses as directed by the ISE Program Faculty Lead and the Department Chair.
  • Be an excellent teacher, current in the discipline.
  • Engage students actively in their own learning, including discussion, writing, and analysis.
  • Set high standards regarding course content.
  • Provide students with feedback on their coursework and examinations.
  • Be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Collect assessment data on student learning.
  • Participate in efforts for accreditation related to teaching assignments.
  • Ensure students evaluate courses using standard University evaluation forms.
  • Make course evaluations available to department chairs and faculty Lead for annual review.
