About The Position

The Individual and Major Gifts Director (IMGD) manages the Individual Giving team which is responsible for raising $10.5M+ from individual donors annually. The IMGD is a front-line fundraiser responsible for securing significant philanthropic support for Mary’s Place, with a primary focus on prospective individual and family foundation donors capable of making gifts in the $10,000+ range with a focus on gifts of $25,000 and above. The entire Development team is responsible for securing $21+ million from private and public support annually. The primary responsibilities of the Individual and Major Gifts Director are to supervise the other Individual Giving team members so they successfully engage donors for charitable donors; and to engage and nurture major donors through meaningful stewardship and personalized solicitations to increase donor loyalty and donations. The IMGD actively engages in Mary’s Place racial equity work – striving for racially equitable outcomes and taking responsibility for creating, maintaining, and affirming communities for people of color, immigrants and refugees, trans and gender-non-conforming people, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• Professional experience in non-profit fundraising or a comparable field preferred, with some of this experience focused on building relationships with and securing significant donations from individuals.
• Proven track record engaging a large portfolio of donors to understand their philanthropic motivations, deepen their relationship with the organization, solicit new gifts and renewals, and steward their contributions.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact and communicate clearly and effectively.
• Experience managing direct reports.
• Ability to think strategically, multi-task, prioritize, respond promptly, and meet deadlines and performance goals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor database software (experience with Raiser’s Edge/NXT software a plus).
• Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude and sense of humor.
• Ability to interact effectively with co-workers and volunteers of all levels, and with representatives of other organizations and institutions.
• Exhibit compassion and empathy; work well with people from all ethnic, social, economic, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
• Must have access to transportation to meet with donors, attend events, etc.
• Ability to converse with and listen to people in many different settings.
• Ability to use a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
• Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, and/or carry supplies up to 25 pounds.
• Travel to program sites and meetings outside the site and around the county may be necessary on occasion.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed and increased hours around key events.

Responsibilities

• Build and execute a year-round solicitation strategy to achieve overall revenue goal for individual giving, including a timeline for approach and stewardship.
• Provide strategic oversight and input into programs for mid-level donor engagement, major gift pipeline development, annual giving solicitations, and stewardship of individual donors.
• Manage a portfolio of 150 - 175 individual donors and family foundation representatives giving $10,000+ annually. Conduct and document personal visits and meaningful contacts to qualify, cultivate and/or steward donors and prospective donors. Solicit gifts and complete necessary follow-ups.
• Research, identify and engage new prospective donors.
• Work with the Individual Giving Manager, Annual Fund Manager, Individual and Major Gifts Director, Chief Development Officer, and Development Communications Manager to plan and execute solicitations and other communications.
• Manage Individual and Major Gifts Associate Manager and the Individual Giving team and help them reach their fundraising goals.
• Solicit and secure table captains and donors for annual special events, and other fundraising events throughout the year.
• Be accountable to mutually agreed upon goals, strategies, and metrics, participating in ongoing and regular assessment of progress toward goals.
• Use Raiser’s Edge NXT to document activity and actions, update donor records and coding, manage portfolio and opportunities, and pull reports to support work.
• Represent the organization at public events, presentations, and speaking engagements to share the organization’s mission, vision, goals, and opportunities for engagement/partnership.
• Assist with other Development projects and duties as assigned.
