About The Position

The job of an Individual Aide/ Paraprofessional is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility in assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing information to appropriate school personnel. This role involves adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support instructional objectives and meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. The aide will implement behavior management systems, assist with student supervision (including feeding and movement, with proper lifting techniques), and maintain the safety and general welfare of assigned students. Responsibilities also include assisting with toileting, maintaining confidentiality of student information, charting student progress, and keeping required forms current. Effective communication with students, colleagues, supervising staff, healthcare professionals, and support personnel is essential. The aide must maintain current knowledge of each student's needs, first aid procedures, and approved physical and psychological management techniques. Participation in ongoing professional development and training is also a key function.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the instructional program.
  • Assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs.
  • Assist in implementing plans for instruction.
  • Monitor student behavior.
  • Provide information to appropriate school personnel.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials to support and reinforce classroom objectives and meet IEP goals.
  • Implement established behavior management system.
  • Assist in maintaining routine classroom procedures and preparation of materials.
  • Assist with student supervision and/or feeding including snacks and reinforcements.
  • Assist with student movement (including lifting) and maintain knowledge of proper technique.
  • Assist in maintaining safety and general welfare of assigned students.
  • Assist in toileting and bathroom supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student performances and records.
  • Chart and maintain student progress via collection of behavioral, vocational, and educational data.
  • Keep current all required forms and documents.
  • Cooperate with all ACES personnel and consultants.
  • Communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
  • Communicate with supervising instructional staff, and a variety of health care professionals, and professional support personnel for the purpose of communicating progress or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of each student’s special circumstances and needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of first aid procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge and ability to safely support students’ physical needs such as lifting, repositioning, feeding, and toileting.
  • Maintain knowledge and ability to maintain safety of self, staff, and students by participating and maintaining approved physical and psychological management techniques.
  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
