About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Indirect Underwriter is to provide exceptional service to both internal and external members. In addition, the position involves evaluating loan applications, conducting thorough reviews, and making prompt, well-informed lending decisions.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of consumer lending practices, including underwriting, loan processing, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with federal and state lending regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of financial products and services offered by credit unions.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ lending experience in a financial institution or related entity preferred.
  • Experience in a credit union or similar financial institution is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in lending software and loan origination systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and render decisions on all indirect loan applications within established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Analyze credit reports, financial ratios, and other relevant metrics to support sound consumer lending decisions.
  • Assess applicant and co-applicant eligibility based on membership criteria, credit and product guidelines.
  • Identify and appropriately handle potentially fraudulent applications.
  • Support portfolio management strategies to maintain target goals for Weighted Average Rate (WAR) and delinquency.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with dealership personnel regarding underwriting decisions, approval conditions, credit reports, and applicable federal regulations.
  • Review and interpret supporting documentation such as tax returns, pay stubs (including tip income and shift differentials), and other financial records.
  • Engage in continuous personal development and actively embrace coaching and feedback.
  • Foster strong relationships with teammates, credit union staff, and dealership contacts through effective communication.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills while adhering to lending compliance standards and risk mitigation practices.
  • Represent the credit union positively through professional appearance and courteous demeanor.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to the credit union, its members, and dealership partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Indirect Lending Manager.
