About The Position

DuraServ is seeking an Indirect Tax Analyst with multi-jurisdictional tax knowledge, Avalara proficiency, and analytical discipline to ensure compliance with sales tax, use tax, and property tax obligations for a national organization. This role involves managing regulatory risk by collecting and reconciling tax data, maintaining exemption certificates, administering Avalara, supporting audits, and researching tax law changes. The position reports directly to the Tax Director and collaborates with accounts payable, billing, and external auditors. The focus is on maintaining the compliance infrastructure that protects the organization, rather than just processing transactions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in indirect tax, with demonstrated exposure to sales tax, use tax, and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
  • Experience with sales tax automation software (Avalara preferred; equivalent platform experience considered).
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems as they relate to tax data, accruals, and reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel for data analysis and reconciliation.
  • Indirect tax fluency, including strong working knowledge of sales and use tax regulations, property tax processes, and multi-jurisdictional tax rules.
  • Avalara proficiency, including administration, system configuration, calculation accuracy, and troubleshooting.
  • Analytical precision in reconciling tax data, identifying discrepancies, and maintaining defensible records.
  • Clear communication skills to explain complex indirect tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
  • Deadline discipline to manage multiple filing deadlines across various authorities.
  • Ethical grounding, including confidentiality, integrity, and judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting tax audits and preparing audit-ready documentation for external review.
  • Background working cross-functionally with accounts payable and billing teams on tax accruals and payments.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, reconcile, and analyze sales tax, use tax, property tax, and other tax data to ensure accuracy in reporting and compliance submissions across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare and review tax journal entries for accurate financial reporting.
  • Conduct tax research to stay current with evolving federal, state, and local tax laws and assess their impact on company operations.
  • Review, validate, and maintain customer exemption certificates and tax credit documentation.
  • Administer and maintain Avalara tax automation software, ensuring proper system configuration, accurate tax calculation, and reliable integration with ERP systems.
  • Partner with accounts payable and billing teams to ensure proper application of tax payments and accurate sales and use tax accruals.
  • Assist in gathering and preparing documentation for tax audits, working closely with internal teams and external auditors.
  • Maintain compliance standards across all tax processes with a commitment to confidentiality and ethical judgment.
