About The Position

Westbank First Nation (WFN) is seeking an Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) Consultant to provide culturally safe, family-centred early intervention and developmental support services for Indigenous children and youth (ages 3–19) with developmental support needs. This role involves working collaboratively with families, community partners, and multidisciplinary professionals to promote inclusion, strengthen each child's circle of support, and help children reach their developmental goals while honoring the strengths, culture, and values of each family. The position is located within the traditional unceded territory of the syilx people in the Okanagan Valley.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, including working with children with additional support needs.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, results acceptable to WFN.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract with access to a reliable vehicle required.
• Valid First Aid with CPR Level B.
• Meets all immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements in accordance with provincial legislation and program requirements.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and clients.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, responsive relationship with children and families.
• Ability to establish and maintain supportive, collaborative relationships with families, childcare setting staff, child development professionals, and colleagues.
• Working knowledge of trauma-informed, family-centered, and inclusive practice.
• Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use a cultural safety framework when working with Indigenous children, families, and communities.

Nice To Haves

• Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate with Special Needs Designation preferred or required (depending on funding requirements).
• Experience working with indigenous communities/children considered an asset.
• Knowledge of Westbank First Nation and of the support services offered within the community.

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with Westbank First Nation (WFN) staff including the Out of School Care Program (OSC), Westbank Child Development Centre (WCDC), Sensisyusten, the WFN Family Program, and the WFN Wellness Team, to support children that require additional assistance to fully participate in activities.
• Provides support, consultation, and training for parents/caregivers and childcare providers.
• Provides services that strengthen the child's "Circle of Support" within the context of their family and their community.
• Determines eligibility and levels of support that can be provided by a support worker.
• Conducts developmental screenings and assessments when needed and refers to external professional assessments.
• Creates an Individual Service Plan (ISP) for each child, including strategies and activities for inclusion, as well as daily activities and experiences to meet developmental goals and objectives.
• Informs families of available resources and supports and makes referrals to relevant services as needed.
• Maintains comprehensive, up-to-date electronic files for each child, ensuring necessary forms and consents are complete.
• Prepares and completes reports as required by the province.
• Ensures timely and accurate reporting as required by the province.
• Assists in transitions to kindergarten, middle school, or other transitions that may impact the child.
• Works within a flexible schedule and performs other duties as necessary in the performance of the position and as directed.
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with WFN policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by Early Years Manager.
