About The Position

The Indigenous Lead serves as a trusted advisor and relationship builder, fostering understanding and respectful relationships between Indigenous communities and Calgary Foothills PCN. Grounded in an understanding of Indigenous cultures, ways of knowing and approaches to health and wellness, this role works collaboratively with leaders and staff to advance cultural humility, support health equity initiatives and promote greater awareness of Indigenous perspectives. Through partnership, education and collaboration, the Indigenous Lead supports organizational learning and contributes to creating welcoming, culturally responsive experiences for Indigenous patients, families and communities.
Success in this role will be demonstrated through the ability to influence and support meaningful organizational change that enhances care experiences and strengthens community partnerships. This includes advancing initiatives that promote cultural humility, supporting the implementation of Truth and Reconciliation commitments within PCN and fostering stronger connections between Indigenous communities, clinicians and the broader primary care system.

Requirements

• Understanding of the needs of patients from First Nations, Metis or Inuit settlements and community resources

• Knowledge and experience in primary care and the Patient Medical Home
• Completion of a satisfactory criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search.

Nice To Haves

• Undergraduate degree in humanities, social science or clinical discipline
• 3-5 years lived experience in: Healthcare, community development, organizational change, Indigenous health or a related field
• Traditional Indigenous knowledge and earned understanding of Indigenous cultural beliefs, values, customs, traditions, healing ways, ceremonies, traditional medicine and protocols

Responsibilities

• Lead and support cultural humility initiatives across the PCN
• Build and maintain respectful relationships within Indigenous communities
• Provide strategic advice to leadership on Indigenous health priorities, reconciliation and culturally responsive practices
• Serve as a liaison within the Calgary zone, and provincial Indigenous health initiatives and support local implementation
• Collaborate with Calgary Zone PCNs to strengthen shared learning, coordinate supports and reduce duplication of services for Indigenous communities
• Support engagement activities that ensure Indigenous perspectives inform programs, services and organizational planning
