About The Position

The Indigenous Healthy Babies Healthy Children Worker is responsible to ensure that all Indigenous families and their children (prenatal to age 6) who need assistance with physical, emotional, mental and social issues have access to effective, consistent, early intervention services. The Indigenous Healthy Babies Healthy Children Worker provides the best opportunities for healthy child development through home visiting, service coordination, parenting groups, cultural teaching, traditions, and referrals.

Requirements

• Post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree in social sciences or health services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a community setting.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and competency working with other databases
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and traditions.
• Knowledge of and connection to service agencies in the location of service delivery.
• Knowledge of parenting skills, prenatal health and issues, infant care, and nutrition issues.
• Knowledge and working understanding of Not-for-Profit Organizations.
• Knowledge and understanding of current issues facing Indigenous women and their families.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
• A Doula certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all Indigenous families and their children (prenatal to age 6) who need assistance with physical, emotional, mental and social issues have access to effective, consistent, early intervention services.
• Provide the best opportunities for healthy child development through home visiting, service coordination, parenting groups, cultural teaching, traditions, and referrals.
• Advocacy work on behalf of Community Members, including referral to local service agencies.
• Network with other community agencies, services, and organizations.
• Track and report statistical information.
• Provide crisis support, guidance and referral skills.
• Follow through on assigned duties independently within strict deadlines.
