About The Position

The Independent Living Specialist role at the Jack Ryan Residence focuses on providing comprehensive case management services to a caseload of mentally ill, homeless adults. This involves assisting clients with obtaining benefits, referrals for treatment, monitoring hygiene, teaching independent living skills, and providing support for entitlements, housing appointments, and housing placement. The position also includes facilitating weekly psychoeducational groups, generating progress and group notes, and preparing monthly statistical reports. The specialist will participate in clinical team meetings, case conferences, and other staff meetings, and may assist with program staff coverage as needed. Emergency first aid/CPR assistance may also be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Experience working in residential treatment
  • Experience working with MICA and homeless populations
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Masters degree ideal
  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of HRA and NY/NY application systems a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive case management services to a challenging caseload of mentally ill, homeless adults.

  • Provide escorts to and advocacy for entitlements and housing appointments.
  • Assist with housing placement.
  • Facilitate weekly psycho educational group.
  • Generate ongoing progress and group notes as well as monthly statistical reports.
  • Participate in clinical team, case conference, and other staff meetings.
  • Assist with program staff coverage as needed.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
