About The Position

We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide one-on-one afternoon support for an individual with Mild Intellectual Disability and Autism. Services will focus on increasing independence in daily living skills, community navigation, and household responsibilities. This is perfect for a candidate who wants to help a young person become more independent. Primary Goals of Support: Improve personal hygiene and self-care routines Support with housing assistance Assist with household chores and organization Develop meal preparation and meal planning skills

Requirements

  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, and Autism preferred
  • Patient, dependable, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and observation skills
  • Ability to provide hands-on assistance as needed
  • Two forms of valid identification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Live Scan fingerprint clearance
  • Current TB test clearance

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support with personal hygiene routines
  • Encourage independence while offering assistance as needed
  • Help establish consistent daily routines
  • Assist with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the home
  • Break tasks into manageable steps to support success
  • Cleaning and maintaining keeping the bedroom neat and clean.
  • Support planning simple, nutritious meals
  • Assist with safe meal preparation and kitchen navigation
  • Adapt cooking tasks to ensure accessibility and safety
  • Provide guidance and supervision during community outings
  • Assist with responding to appropriately to unexpected situations in public settings.
  • Offer support understanding social cues, and assist as needed
  • Navigation & Safety: Additional guidance in regulation to respond appropriately to their frustrations
  • Staff may need to provide support, transitions and coping skills
  • Communication & Accessibility: Tasks may include support with maintaining conversations, expressing needs and feelings appropriately.
  • Staff may assist in supporting stressful situations.
  • Adapted Training Needs: Supporting these needs may require additional training or preparation to ensure effective, safe, and respectful services
  • Challenges Related to Location: The individual’s location may present logistical considerations, including: Limited Staff Availability, Living in a small and overcrowded apartment.
  • Transportation Barriers: Staff may experience clients urge to change locations, (but remain all local to his home) meeting other areas besides the home.
