We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide one-on-one afternoon support on Tuesdays for an individual with Mild Intellectual Disability and Epilepsy. Services will focus on increasing independence in daily living skills, community navigation, and household responsibilities while ensuring safety and accessibility. The ideal candidate is adaptable, observant, and comfortable supporting an individual with visual impairment. The primary goals of support include improving personal hygiene and self-care routines, supporting safe and confident community navigation, assisting with household chores and organization, and developing meal preparation and meal planning skills. The role involves providing guidance and support with personal hygiene routines, encouraging independence, assisting with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the home, supporting planning simple, nutritious meals, and assisting with safe meal preparation. Additionally, the role includes providing guidance and supervision during community outings and assisting with safely navigating environments. The individual’s visual impairment may present unique challenges that staff must be prepared to address, including additional guidance for navigation and safety, orientation support, mobility assistance, or introducing adaptive strategies or technology. Tasks involving written or visual information may require adaptation, and staff may assist with reading mail, organizing household items, or supporting the use of voice-activated or accessibility-focused technology. Supporting these needs may require additional training or preparation. Challenges related to location may include limited staff availability in remote or underserved areas and potential transportation barriers due to limited public transportation options, heavy traffic, or difficult accessibility to the home. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, epilepsy, or visual impairment, possess strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills, be patient, dependable, and adaptable, comfortable providing hands-on support while promoting independence, and able to work independently during scheduled afternoon hours. The work environment is one-on-one support in home and community settings with a Tuesday-only afternoon schedule, in a structured, supportive, and safety-focused role.
