The Support Advocate position is a unique and challenging opportunity to be a difference between can’t and can in someone’s life. Each Advocate works with adults who have the overall goal of successfully living in their own home and being an active member of their community. The right candidate will enjoy a fast-paced (on-the-go) day, visiting different individuals living in various areas throughout our community. This role involves independent, self-directed work, while advocating and encouraging independence in others. It also includes teaching others by building skills, accomplishing goals and being a role model, and using technology and community resources to help achieve connectedness and advocacy. From moving to their own apartment for the first time to learning to prepare the Thanksgiving meal; from paying bills for the first time with no assistance to learning to take care of their health, the opportunities for success and achievement are limitless. The Support Advocate position is more than “just a job,” it is a passion for seeing and experiencing someone’s growth in independence every day.
