About The Position

The Independent Living Advisor (ILA) role focuses on maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly dorm environment by effectively controlling student behavior. This position involves providing guidance and support to students, monitoring their activities, and reinforcing positive behaviors while holding them accountable for negative ones. The ILA also plays a key role in training students in independent living and leadership skills, maintaining important records, and collaborating with a team to ensure effective case management services.

Requirements

Ability to relate to and work with disadvantaged youth
Proven customer service skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to meet frequent deadlines and handle stressful, hectic situations without loss of efficiency and composure
Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel and Outlook, etc.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

Residential experience in a group home or college dormitory setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Ensures accurate accountability of students present for duty.
Provides counseling and guidance to students on attitude, behavior, and interpersonal relationships.
Monitors student activity and ensures appropriate behavior in the dorm.
Directs students and assists with dorm maintenance and cleanup.
Provides students with training in independent living and leadership skills.
Reinforces positive behaviors and holds students accountable for negative behaviors.
Maintains shift logs, enters data into the Center Information System and Student Folders, and reports incidents.
Supports Dorm Supervisor, Counselor, and team members in case management services.
Acts as a team member with other Independent Living Advisors, completing assigned duties and communicating shift information.
Acts as an advisor to the Student Peer Court.
